What’s In Your Rope Bag?

Brady Tryan and the Ultimate Four

Do you ever wonder what you are going to do use when you get ready to rope, and the temperature changes drastically or the cattle are not what you expected…. and you only have one type rope in your bag?  You are not alone!  Ropers need to be able to depend on their ropes.  This is why you must prepare for different conditions; carry ropes of different lays (stiffness) and different styles of ropes in your bag at all times.  Throughout the year, we will hear from the Fast Back pro roper team about what they carry in their rope bag, and why!  Feel free to post comments and questions below.

In my rope bag is the Redline XS and the Mach 3 and 4 XS and Soft and my favorite is the Ultimate Four XS. I love Fast Back Ropes!

  2. Howard Conner says:

Redline M and Ultimate 4 M for the Arizona summer, HM in both for the winter, Early spring and fall we can have a 40 degree change in the weather so ropes can change during the day, also different lays for the changing cattle from the 13 down to the 11. And sometimes the wind will blow down in SE Ariz, lol. Nothing but Fastback in my bag……

  3. Byron Gibbs says:

Heeling I have Mach 4 HM and Natural HM. Heading I have Redline XS and Mach 4 XS. I’m in Northern AZ and the wind blows so I need a heavier rope for that.

  4. Bryan Englund says:

Mach 4 head ropes XS (definitly in cooler weather) , Instinct XS head ropes! Heel ropes Instinct HM! Only Fast Back ropes in my bag! Got some Patron head ropes also!

  5. Franklin Duncan says:

  7. Trent Towne says:

I have The Redline XS and The Natural XS and Ultimate 4 M and the Instinct MH; I live in southwestern Colorado and in North Eastern Arizona and these ropes just hold their body and spring run after run without any effect from the weather. Ive been roping steers with various sized horns and the XS head ropes are so forgiving which help out if you get behind or if you want to reach a little and speed up your runs. I’ve been heeling with the Instinct since it’s arrived it’s one of the best and easiest ropes to handle.

  8. Cody Rajdl says:

Heeling: Redline MS and M, Natural MS, Mach III MS, and Occasionaly a Natural M. I dont head much but when I do I like a Pink Patron XS

  9. JBurgess says:

Natural Med and H-Med. Depends on cattle and weather… Minimal change in the naturals body in temp changes compared to competitors. Also prefer the ultimate 4 and mach 3 plus xs /s in the head ropes. Switched from almost exclusive cactus ropes when ultimate 4 arrived!

  10. David Fletcher says:

    Medium Naturals and Redlines.

  11. Don Ruff says:

6 Redline HM, 3 Ultimate4 M, 3 Ultimate4 HM, 1 Instinct M, 1 Instinct HM. I have really enjoyed the ropes from FastBack. Each has its own place, with the various conditions all ropers encounter. Have been using and promoting FastBack ropes since early 2009. Thank you everyone at FastBack for doing what you do.

  12. Braidy Davies says:

In my bag is the Redline and Instinct S. I use these ropes because their feel and the way they take the abuse. Being from Canada our indoor building can sometimes not be ideal for roping. Whether it be cold, humidity, or poor ground these ropes always seem to feel the same no matter the conditions. I also keep an Instinct M around just in case I get to heel.

  13. Josh Canant says:

Instinct hm, till the red line came out. Now that’s the only one I use!!! Feels great and lasts.

  14. Shanna Perkins says:

In my rope bag I have some MS Redline Heel ropes. I really like the way they feel. Also Have some XS Grabber Lite Head ropes. FastBack Ropes are Great Ropes.

  15. Becky Patton says:

In my rope bag i have the redline XXS. It was the rope i started out head roping with and i love it, its light, and just feels right in my hands.

  16. Tyler Coen says:

I have 7 Redline HM’s in my bag, i love the body of them and the big tip feel without as much weight, its like a supercharged natural, love it!

  17. jay hale says:

    HM redline they last forever

  18. Cole Richards says:

Nothing in my rope bag but Mach 4 soft cuz it’s the only thing I feel comfortable catching with

  19. Kris Mendel says:

Mach III left handed MH,M,MS,S heel ropes . Wouldn’t use anything else.

  20. Patti Coffee says:

I have a couple of Redline XS ropes, a Natural, and a couple of Mach IV ropes in my rope bag. Started with Fast Back ropes and never found any that compared.

  21. Todd Zipprich says:

My ropebag has 5 redlines and 4 instinct soft head ropes , fro the last 10 years I have trusted nothing but fastback ropes.

  22. Kelton Brown says:

I have a grabber xs and the redline xs and i love them because the grabber has good tip feel and the red line i use on smaller horn cattle because it is snappier and faster. They both are good for any age roper

  23. Nick Hardy says:

I have a bag full of S pink patons. But I am slowly converting to the redline cuz they no longer make the pink patron.

  24. Walter Taylor says:

I only carry one rope in there and it is a soft Ultimate Four. Most versitile rope I’ve ever used arena condition and cattle don’t matter so much when I have something thats that smooth and consistant.

  25. Joe Godoy says:

I have CASH in my rope bag along with my Mach IV Hard Medium Ropes! It is a great combination!

  26. Don Ruff says:

All heel ropes in my rope bag. Redline HM, Redline M, Ultimate4 HM, Instinct HM, Instinct M
My choice to use FastBack ropes comes from the incredible consistency that thier ropes have. When the ties come off they ALWAYS feel the same, from body, kick, and lay. Everything is the same as the last rope. That brings an emense amount of comfort to me. To lay trust in a rope company that provides a consistent product to enable me to rope consistent is something that I love. I have the utmost faith in these ropes. I suggest them and offer them for anyone to try.
Thank you for doing what you do!!!

  27. Leighton says:

How about rope can? The cutting edge anyone?

  28. Rocky Banta says:

I use only Fast Back Red Line HM. They are the most balanced and durable rope out there today.

  29. Have roped with Fastback exclusively since 2001. My head rope of choice is a SOFT Instinct, and for the Heels a Medium MACH IV. Can’t say a thing bad about any of the choices, but just always want these when the money is down!

  30. Mark maxwell says:

I love the mach3 heel m/s and mach3 head rope in xxs & xs always feels the same and great price $$ but you guys need to make a good calf rope maybe a grass rope mark from Western Austraila

  31. Daniel Stice says:

The Instinct xs is the best head rope I have ever held in my hand. The confidence that I have when I rope with it I feel gives me an advantage above the competition.

  32. bo arbuckle says:

ultimate 4 head rope XS and Soft 3 of each in various stages of use lol

  33. Robbie Harrison says:

In my rope bag is a Ultimate 4 head rope XS and Redline head rope XS also I have Gator Gripper S head rope then a GT4 heel rope M.

I use the Ultimate Four MS it doesnt get any better than that

  36. jake says:

I just got the redline in s and xs because you never know what the weather in AK will do. I ended up using the soft and loved it. My niece used the xs for her first time roping and won breakaway for high school. (she didn’t have a calf rope). I had loaned out my natural heel rope and used my redline and was still able to throw a decent loop. Sticking with the redline for sure.
